There are 419 city libraries in Moscow. Most of them are struggling to find their place in a contemporary digitalized world and attract readers.

Back in 2013 Moscow administration decided to revive a system of city libraries and introduced the concept of a «city living room» uniting functions of a library as is and a free-of-charge city space for citizens to come and spend time at, work and take part in cultural events.

Due to peculiarities of public funding and general lack of concept about how a library should look and work nowadays, most libraries are furnished with miscellaneous or unapt items. That doesn’t help much to make a library a popular city space and promote reading.
